The Company
Kempster is a business with a proud 130-year tradition of experience and innovation.
Its origins are in equipment for fire fighting, papermaking, textile, rubber & plastics machinery.
Today Kempster is also active in water & sewage treatment, Petrochemical, Power Generator, Cement, Pharmaceuticals & Sugar refining.
Kempster serves a global market with a prestigious client base.
The company ethos is to utilise the right materials and know-how, offering products and services, which add value to clients, by providing the best means of handling and controlling challenging product media. Conditions encountered and resisted are typically high temperature and pressures, abrasion, corrosion and erosion. In these areas Kempster has an enviable track record.
A fully equipped, in-house manufacturing facility, with an apprenticed trained workforce, utilising their skills in manufacture, procurement, marketing, project management, design and development and logistics for both UK and export clients.
Whilst utilising a network of specialist craftsmen and suppliers involved in Toolmaking, Patternmaking, Castings and Plastics.
The Company is accredited to ISO9001: 2000 and is compliant with the Pressure Equipment Regulations.
Kempster is a member of the British Paper Machining Suppliers Association - a division of PICON.

History
| Founded in 1877 as Edward Kempster - Brass Foundry, Bury Lancs. (Birth place of Industrial Revolution). | |
| 1918 | Incorporated as Edward Kempster & Sons Ltd, by which time sophisticated bronze alloy castings were being produced and a machine shop with brass finishing machine tools making Fire appliances - hose nozzles and cocks, had been added. |
| 1920-1940 | Design & development of various specialities for paper making machinery e.g. Rolls, Bearings, wire guides, callipers, plug valves, steam nozzles (known as "the Kempsters" & a range of special valves. Manufacturing commercial facilities created to suit. Exporting to Scandinavia established |
| 1940-1945 | Production turned over to armaments on government instruction. Limited manufacture of standard products for essential spares and maintenance. |
| 1945-1980 | Continuous development with new state of the art designs of Rotary joints and knife gate valves. Exporting worldwide. |
| 1980-2007 |
Production moved to current facility in Rochdale, under the ownership of 2 great grandsons of the founder. Steady enlargement of product ranges of Rotary joint & Knife gate valves, both of which were made in increased sizes for more demanding service conditions. Specifications enhanced to utilise modern materials and metals, plastics & elastomers. Recent user clients include Aker Kvaerner, Invista, Du Pont, Exxon Chemical Polymers, BNFL, Thos. Broadbent, Leeds University, Earthtech, United Utilities, Manchester Airport, Cambi, Corus, Iggesund Paperboard, Genting Sanyen, Reliance Industries, Drax Power Station, Greenbank Terotech, Monsal, Metso Paper, SCA & Thames Water. |
